Questions for Your Bird

Try to answer these questions for your bird.  It will help you remember some of the points in each chapter 

Chapter 1

  • What is the Latin name of your bird?  To what family and Order does it belong?
  • Does your bird have subspecies?
  • Can you name another bird in the same family?
  • In what biogeographical region is your bird found?

Chapter 2

  • What type of habitat does your US bird prefer?
  • Where would your bird be found? Does it occur in CA? Year round?
  • Does your bird have any characteristic behaviors? Is it active in the day or night?

Chapter 3

  • What colors are your birds?
  • Do male and female differ in appearance?
  • What is the chemical / physical origin of the colors?
  • Does your bird have more than one annual molt?
  • Does your US bird have two different (basic and alternate) plumages? If so, describe.
  • Is your bird patterned or shaded to promote concealment?
